Hallowe'en Masks

In dark of night,
a lonely pumpkin sits

where witches swoop
‘tween branches bare

and black cats prowl,
golden eyes agleam

‘Trick or treat’ echoes
through neighbourhoods

ghosts, goblins, pirates
glide and vanish

innocence changed
in mask and costume…..

gauzy clouds dim
stars and moon

misted rain drizzles on
darkened window panes

Hallowe’en floats
past another year.

“But I love Halloween, and I love that feeling: the cold air,
the spooky dangers lurking around the corner.”
~ Evan Peters

Short and Long

A very short poem
After a very long shift.
Changing and shifting
Filling an empty space
Left suddenly open
Creating a very long shift
And a very short poem.

“In day-to-day life, you have stimulus to behave unethically,
but in the long term, it always pays off to be ethical.”
~ Jorge Paulo Lemann

Shifting Balance

Like winds that whistle under doors through cracks in walls
rising from cold window panes on a rainy darkened morning
moods shift and change ~
sodden leaves that seek dry ground until afternoon warmth brightens and calms the spirit ~
stability returns and settles.

“The momentum of the mind can be vexingly, involuntarily capricious.”
~ Gregory Maguire, A Lion Among Men

Book Launch - Money! The Meaning and Mystique ~ Making Sense of the Myths and Mystery behind Money

Launching a book into the public is no mean feat. Writing a book about finances is also no mean feat. Money! The Meaning and Mystique  ~ Making Sense of the Myths and Mystery behind Money written by Jennifer Thompson in collaboration with Shirley Grebinsky was the book launched this evening at The Bard and Banker on Government Street in Victoria. An addition to their collaboration is a small booklet Growing Up with Money a book written for young people to educate about money. The book launch was well attended by many friends and family. Following light dinners and drinks, Jennifer and Shirley spoke about the journey that they had been on for this project. Each author with a different focus, ultimately changed from the position of financial careers to present their work from the perspective of the client. I have yet to read this book, but look forward to reading their wisdom.

“The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it.”

One More Day at Home

Energized and ready to go to start the day, yet it was one more day of lagging.
Oil change and gas in the tank.
Kindness and care to hands and feet (better known as mani/pedi)
Energy hesitating and flagging.
Groceries selected and paid for
(including a lovely piece of mint chocolate).
Strong hands administered massage to this tired body
letting ease and kindness soak through.
Lunch and visit with a friend and colleague followed then
home to quiet and calm and the television.
Eyes heavy and ready for sleep.

Jet Lag

Jet lag lags in the evening.

Three hours gained but left behind  ~ to be picked up and placed upon a pillow as midnight changes into only nine o’clock at night.

“Jet lag is your soul trying to catch up after flying.”

Success at the End of the Day

Setting a challenge
as I set out to travel
I used only two
when three usually sufficed
One for my shoulder
One 'neath the seat
And one to be stowed
in the hold 'neath our feet!
All luggage a jumble
never knowing for sure
if destination would be reached
in the place I planned for luggage and I to meet.

So I selected with care
the clothes to be worn
over four days of conference
and two in the air
Rolled and bunched tightly
all spaces filled in
even shopping for goodies
wound up fitting in.
With the help of a shopping bag
my change to be lighter met with success!
