A Single Strand

On the patio
a single strand of spider web strung between flower pot and table, rock wall and flowers catch a breeze
sunshine glints on the fragile filament ~
tiny sparks of light dance and flit in the warm afternoon sun ~
testament to spirit and soul.

“Spirit is like the wind, in that we can’t see it
but can see its effects, which are profound.”
~ Jimmy Carter

Chances

Time slips by

minute by minute
chances slip by
some unnoticed
some challenges accepted
tastes and times to be savoured even as time slips by

“Time’s arrow points one way only. Even the
moment just past cannot be returned to.”
~ Russell Hoban, Turtle Diary

Stillness ~ 1

When I let myself be still
close my eyes
face to the warm sunshine
songbirds twitter and chirp
crows call raggedly from tree tops
a cool breeze caresses my cheek

When I let myself be still
I feel my heart beat
blood flowing through my veins
muscles relaxing in softness
bones settling weightlessly
there comes a chance for my soul to rest.

“Within yourself is a stillness and a sanctuary to which
you can retreat at any time and be yourself.”
~ Hermann Hesse

Home Building

Spaces between beams and uprights
empty, flat walls
waiting for windows and doors.

Structured homes climbing to the sky ~ foundations settled into the ground, silent wooden skeletons waiting

Spaces waiting to be filled
chances to shelter families
welcoming them home.

”There’s something horribly lonely about a place that’s almost home.”
~ Blake Crouch, Dark Matter

Falling through Space

We all talk
about the cracks
the cracks in the sidewalks
that people fall through
the spaces with no handholds
with images of
bodies falling helplessly
disappearing into the abyss
only to emerge on top
of the sidewalk and all its cracks.

We don’t always talk
about the invisible hands
beneath the cracks in the sidewalks
that reach out
to catch fallen ones
easing their fall
helping them stand firm
supporting life changes
giving them other chances
to walk on sidewalks with fewer cracks

In the darkness, when you cannot see the ground under your feet
and when your fingers touch nothing but night, you are not alone.
I will stay with you as moonlight stays on water.”
~ Nadia Hashimi, When the Moon is Low

Sparks

a spark of light

glows from the centre
chance bursts with opportunity
the soul burns to live

“The illusion is we are only physical.”

Fulfillment

A life of ritual
a life of meaning
or
a life of routine ~
productive, yet flat

chores and tasks
long lists of
to do this
to do that
march
though each day
with a chance
for fulfillment
with a new attitude,
for self care,
for care of others,
for the care of our homes

a life of ritual
a life of meaning
or
a life of routine ~
productive, yet flat.

“Don’t allow your life to become just a dead ritual.
Let there be moments, unexplainable.”
~ Osho, Creativity: Unleashing the Forces Within

Flowering Darkly

Deep inside
a darkness grows
budding
blossoming
burgeoning beauty
sparkling into joy and sunshine
chance becoming challenge.

“Enlightenment arrives like a thief in the middle of the dark night of the soul.”
~ Stefan Emunds, author
