A Mood Piece

Restoring order calms me.

out of sync,

my surroundings show me

sometimes my head is foggy,

flat without direction

no up no down no sideways

suspended in the midst of fog

no energy to go forward or back,

reaching through the fog

to fold a blanket feels good

thankful that order is my balm.

“For nothing matters except life; and, of course, order.”

On an Afternoon Walk ~ Look Up!

Did these darling bird houses swing wildly in this last week's wind? Or were they protected by this solid old elm? Two bright spots of colour against the brown of tree and gray of sky. Their roofs dusted with frost in imitation of the big houses lining the street, their cheery façades hint of warmer days to come.

“There’s always a reason to look up.”

Wind Chill

Wind

Nature’s wild wonder

Frozen branches bow and scrape the sky

Dry snow scuds across roads

Sun dogged with iridescence

Wind

Pulling

Forces coats tighter

Toques jammed on

Gloved hands in pockets

Wind

Pushing

Scarves flying like flags

Forcing tripping running steps

Hurried race across uneven ice to vehicles.

“The wind shows us how close to the edge we are.”

~ Joan Didion

Gifts we Give Ourselves

It could be hard to move forward when temperatures dip and crash unless there were books to read offering extensive vacations to far off lands, or instant time travel to other dimensions, or photos from past travels that spin backwards

to times of joy and laughter.

In the ease of home,

away from the biting cold

there is much on offer

if we breathe, see and accept

gifts we have given ourselves.

“The home should be the treasure chest of living.”

~ Le Corbusier, Swiss-French architect

On an Early Morning Walk - Seeds

On an Early Morning Walk

Late autumn seeds

draped and frosted

   await spring breezes.

will grow and which will not, speak then unto me.”

Swedish Meat Pies

My latest venture into the land of interesting foods, meat pies have never been on my menu. They are now. After eating a whole one tonight, I decided to cut them all in half before freezing them. I made a few mistakes, but they are delicious and will be a great accompaniment to my noon time salad. Or whenever I want a snack. I’ll be making some tweaks to both this recipe and to my pastry skills!

the pleasure is in the creating and the sharing of the result.”

Early Morning

slow movement

feathered with grace

meets morning with care.
