Delete...Delete

There it is again

A blank, and very white page

Staring at me

or am I staring at it.

Willing brilliant thoughts

   ~ any thoughts ~

to appear and make sense.

If I had been trying to compose on paper,

my waste basket would be overflowing

with crumpled lines of drivel.

(The delete button has replaced

the satisfying crunch of paper.)

“If I waited for perfection, I would never write a word.”

Dessicated

Thoughts

Dry and dusty

Glued together

Desiccated

Debris

Like windblown flowers.

“We never know the worth of water till the well is dry.”

~ Thomas Fuller

Blindfolded

Taking steps

blindfolded

to a dark horizon

cautious

each word counted

in blocks and minutes

lifting the blindfold only

to read the next sentence

shape it with meaning

knowing each step taken

gets through to the end.

“This is how you do it: you sit down at the keyboard

and you put one word after another until its done.

It’s that easy, and that hard.

~ Neil Gaiman, author

Far from the Chaos

Earthly beings in

forest, mountain and plain.

tied up in a world burning

with fire and with hate,

yet with each new offspring

there is hope

bringing new growth

before the chaos is stilled.

Sinking into despair binds us

without preparing you or me

to be as tender leaves in spring

for we all still live each day.

Though many branches

may be burned or lost,

the spark of life and kindness

lives on in our roots.

It is with humility that

I share these words

from my cocoon

far from the chaos.

“Perhaps it is controlling the chaos within more than the chaos without.”

~ Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus

To Find Joy

Tasting only the pain of the world,

I had to step away. It hurt too much

and I could do nothing about it.

Tasting only the joy of the world,

I could barely find it!

Until I went for a walk and

saw the precious little toes of a baby,

heard the laughter of children at recess,

saw amazing colourful city art on buildings and fences.

It is too easy to see

pain, violence and a crumbling world.

It may crumble at some time ~

maybe tomorrow, maybe never ~

but until it does,

I will work with my own world and be grateful.

I will help those I can, and be grateful for life.

“We need joy as we need air,

We need love as we need water.

We need each other as

we need the earth we share.”

~ Maya Angelou

Belief vs the Absurd

Absolute belief in

the goodness of humanity

steadies against the absurdity

of recent global events.

“Almost all absurdity of conduct arises from

the imitation of those whom we cannot resemble.”

~ Samuel Johnson,  The Rambler

A Hungry Bird

Need for something is like

a hungry bird on your shoulder.

It does not want for anything

~ only a few grains to eat,

while I sit here wanting

the furniture to be different.

Need for something is also

sunshine on my face,

wind in my hair,

sharing beauty, voice and kindness

I will not die or turn green without

those simple things, but my insides

will shrivel until I become that hungry bird.

“Here’s to the moment when you realize

the simple things are wonderful and enough.”

~ Jill Badonsky, The Awe-manac: A Daily Dose of Wonder
