Thoughts
like crisped leaves
rustling along the sidewalks
at the beck and call
of the wind or my booted feet.
~ the red gold crunch of autumn.
“Anyone who things fallen leaves are dead
has never watched them dancing on a windy day.”
~ Shira Tamir

It only takes
the warmth of a hug
on an ordinary day
to brighten the moment.
A gentle surprise
that needs no words.
“A simple hug can make all the difference.”
~ Tommy Leonard, I Want to Hug an Ant
On a grey day
when the wind is low
and the air is cool
there is always time
to pause and notice
dark purple berries surrounded
by autumn gold and green .
“This time, like all times, is a very good one,
if we but know what to do with it.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Spirit, strong but hidden, beneath
the should haves and must do’s
until it vanishes
in life’s beautiful image.
With abruptness,
this quiet spirit will rise
and step into any fray.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.”
~ Max Ehrmann, Desiderata
(1872 ~ 1945)
So many of the photos
I take are lovely flowers,
grand sky-scapes,
ancient elms,
Flamboyant fall colours,
expanses of water
here and on Vancouver Island.
Then there are squirrels:
In leafy branches
Perched in the grass
Running along fences
Scampering across roads
Racing up and around a tree trunk
And this little guy ~ on duty.
“Do your duty as you see it, and damn the consequences.”
~ George S. Patton Jr.

Happy and grateful

Waking to the drizzle and drop of rain
I thought of the trees given
a last drink of water of autumn.
When the rain turned to snow,
whipped about by fierce winds,
I was secure in the warmth of my home.
When granola, warm and spicy,
comes out of the oven,
I am blessed with its goodness.
Abundance is a gift I am grateful for.
If I compare my home to others
I am neither wealthy nor destitute.
“Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart,
it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.”
A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
