Repetition

Over and over

the sun rises and sets

while our little lives

worry about doing

the sameness of life

over and over.

You may say -

‘but the sun hides

on a cloudy day.’

So it is with our moods or griefs

or sadness that cloud our thoughts.

And so, over and over, we wake and we sleep,

and live those days that we are blessed with.

“Repetition is the reality and the seriousness of life.”

~ Søren Kierkegaard,

Danish theologian and philosopher

Do I Dare?

Motivation slows

while it stays inside me

locked away, carefully set

behind glass like some kind

of caged bird

that cannot be touched by this

all to human heart and hand

Do I dare?

Dare to push aside

all of the shiny distractions?

But then comes the

What if’s and Should do’s

Daring me to open the glass cage,

to let motivation to fly free

within this all to human heart and hand.

Keep on, Keeping’ On - MOMENTUM ~ Theme for May 2025

Motivation slows…..

Over and over……

Motive comes from…..

Energy is not necessary………

Nature walks……

Tick tock, tick tock……

Underneath it all…..

Marmalade march…….

“A river is easier to channel than to stop.”

Arms Spread Wide

There is no end to balance.

When I look through an

ordinary day, I am constantly

balancing something.

My physical balance is always questionable,

but I think mostly of the

balance of sound and taste ~

is the TV too loud or too soft;

when I make granola, as I did tonight, did I balance the spices ~ I overdid it on the ginger, but I do like ginger.

And when the sun is slipping

away for the night, are my lights

in my home sufficient for writing

or reading? When my head space

is crammed full of only that one

thing, I could have missed the rest

of life, so we learn as we grow

spreading our ams wide to embrace life.

“Live your life with arms wide open.

Today is where your book begins.

The rest is still unwritten.”

Spring's Miracle

Look closely as you pass by

Life awakens in leafy green

If we pass by too quickly

spring’s miracle will be missed.

Election Canada

If someone had told me that politics would play a large part of my retirement, I would say something intelligent like - Oh Pish posh! But the events of the last few years both here and in the U.S. have gotten my attention like never before. Not only have I been voting more enthusiastically, but I’m almost a political nerd! But only almost. This morning I cast my ballot in Canada’s federal election. Slings and barbs from a politician south of the border suggesting - no, calling Canada less than a country, and one to be taken over - to give up on itself - raised the ire of the population of this country. So far, the Liberal party has the largest share of the votes. All the results are not in, but it looks like we just may have an economist and a first time politician as our Prime Minister. Still lots of votes to count but there you have it!  Now just a word from a previous Prime Minister:

“Our old-fashioned system is better than any new-fangled voting machine.

Not only is it guaranteed to work, but there is something I find

appealing in putting a mark on a piece of paper for the candidate

of your choice, as opposed to pulling a lever as if you

were gambling on a slot machine in Las Vegas.

At the Park

My first park walk of the year on a day so warm, brought joy to my heart and pepped up my steps. I didn’t skip and run like the tag-a-long child in me wanted me to.

Any attempt to skip and run

would have brought my walk

to an abrupt and inglorious end. I do like to present myself as a mature adult. So I took my time, stopping to revel in the sun and new growth of a tree here and a bush there.

At the lake the ganders, their necks

stretched long, strutted

and called loudly to potential mates that showed little interest. Ducks bobbed, swam and kept distant from kayakers. Joggers and walkers traced the broad path around the lake ~ broad shoulders wet with perspiration; groups of three of four deep in conversation, families with strollers, cyclists of all ages followed at their own pace.

The wind accompanied us all.

“Nature surrounds us, from parks and backyards to streets and alleyways. Next time you go out for a walk, tread gently

and remember that we are but inhabitants

and stewards of nature in our neighbourhoods.”

~ David Suzuki
