Book Review: The Idea of Perfection by Kate Grenville

A fascinating read that wanders through small town life in a hot and dusty Australian landscape.
Two city folk, Douglas Cheeseman, an engineer, and Harley Savage, a museum consultant, come invited to Karakarook for different and very disparate purposes. They are strangers to these country citizens and to each other. From this Kate Grenville has penned a story both humourous and tragic. This is a story of the inner energies built from traumatic life experiences, of the manifestations of suppressed thought, beliefs and memories and finally a story of the coming together of individuals and a community despite all of these distortions.

“She had judged herself, and put herself away in a cage marked dangerous.”
Kate Grenville, The Idea of Perfection
