Another Gentle Evening

It’s much later tonight ~
out for coffee after work with Jan and Robin
then to Nootka Trader’s for t-shirts for grandkids
followed by supper at Heron Rock Bistro
So:
I am ready to sleep tonight
the day has been long only
in hours but not in enjoyment.
~ visit with family a pleasant ending
And now to bed.....
Another lovely transition
from collegial work day to pleasant family eve.

“Cherish your human connections:
your relationships with friends and family.”

A Gentle Evening ~ 1

Ready to sleep tonight, today has been long only in hours but not long enough in enjoyment ~ visit with family a pleasant ending, we strolled a lovely walk in Beacon Hill Park, toured my efficient new home and yard, shared supper made by my Edmonton guests ~ sister and brother-in-law.
And now to bed.....
A lovely transition from collegial work day through pleasant family eve.

“Cherish your human connections:
your relationships with friends and family.”

Only a Black Band

It was only a black band,
but a black band that quietly stated
potential and knowledge
experience and expertise.

A black velvet band
looked up to and cherished
from childhood all the way
through nurses training.

The crisp white cap was proudly adorned with the sought after black band showing physician and patient alike that the transition had been complete ~ transition from student to a real nurse.

From childhood dream to teenage imaginings
on to book work and clinical experience.
Black bands and nursing caps are a thing of the past
but transition from student to real nurse remains today.

“The distinction between the past, present and future
is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.”
~ Albert Einstein

Action Figures

Leaping into spaces
between....
Jumping from one state
to another
Crossing over a path
against the grain
Stepping lightly on stones
in a babbling brook
Swimming through
clear or muddied waters.
Pulling oars smoothly
against deep lake water
Swinging high on a trapeze
through space without net beneath
Changing long held attitudes with
new information
Transition ~ fluid movement
of thought, idea and action.

When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached,
don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.”
~ Confucius

Transformation ~ 2

Transition 'tween states of anxiety and calm.

Anxiety ~ bizarre snaking of shapes and sounds through the earth of dreamy consciousness
bursting awake in great gasps of breath.

Breaths ~ slowing..slower...slowest...
deep breaths into the belly of the anxious beast

Calming the viciousness, hatefulness
retracting and reforming into larvae
resting and centering,
to shed protective shell to emerge
a great multi-coloured butterfly rising on a draft.

Floating, floating ~ until
direction is a felt sense deep within
dipping down to earth for land's sustenance
resting powerful wings until the next updraft
merges with inner energy to
carry the butterfly one flight further
towards a distance goal

“Transformation literally means
going beyond your form.”
~ Wayne Dyer

Comes a Goal From Within

An unformed goal arises
maybe not even conscious
an impulsive wish,
a high flying dream,
a fleeting spark of thought
something more or better
safer or more defined
brighter, more open
an oddity that couldn’t possibly be real....

Transition slips in through
cracks, crevices and wrinkles of heart and soul
mind whirls and spins, or maybe just chugs along
working out minutiae under the surface
til energy builds and there is flight.

“The important thing is to strive towards a goal which is not immediately
visible. That goal is not the concern of the mind, but of the spirit.”
~Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Flight to Arras, 1942,
translated from French by Lewis Galantiere
