Starburst

Standing as tall as possible

reaching as far as I could

I caught a star in the sky,

tucked it into my soul

I grew warm in it’s light

until it burst my crusted heart,

and I grew taller than I knew.

“Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder,

spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”

~ E.E. Cummings

Shaded

Experience changes

colours and depths of belief,

brings nuance into one’s life

just as the trees in spring

grow from their winter sparse

to soft and brilliant green

to offer us shade in the heat

just as experience offers

the shade of knowing about

the nuances of many lives.

When we step out of that shade

we risk a brittle, arrogant life.

Experience and willingness

can change colours and depths of belief.

“The spectacles of experience; through them

you will see clearly a second time.”

~ Henrik Ibsen, Norwegian Poet

(March 20, 1828 - May 23, 1906)

A Silent Balance

Resilience comes silently

 ~ a balance against winds

that blow through our lives.

“She had fouled off of the curves that life had thrown at her.”

Breath Work

Grace, quiet and a willing spirit

vanish

in the midst of deep heartache

until with deep cleansing breaths,

grace, quiet and a willing spirit

are restored.

“Smile, breathe and go slowly.”

~ Thich Nhat Hanh

World View

Outlandish ideas

change the world

if allowed to grow.

assert that we know all there is to be known?”

Through it All

Reason seldom has a direction

~ an ancient map that

travels the lessons of history

with great gaps for hazy dreams, finding reality on a horizon when we arrive at our truth.

“Fantasy, abandoned by reason, produces impossible monsters;

united with it, she is the mother of the arts and the origin of marvels.”

~ Francisco de Goya

Being Present

Purpose is only to

find direction in life.

Have I done enough?

Can I do more?

What is the purpose of me?

When will I know?

Could it be as simple as

sharing our stories?

Could it be as simple as

being alert to life around us?

Could it be as simple as

taking care of family bonds?

What is the purpose of me?

When will I know?

Have I done enough?

Can I do more?

Purpose is only to

find direction in life.

“‘I want to make my mark,’ he says.

‘But what target are you going to hit?’”

~ Cecil Castellucci, Boy Proof
