Softness

Setting sun waves a fond goodnight.
Soft pink cloud edged in gold
spreads a last glow over
lush green land fading into black.
Silvered crystal water mirrors the gift of softness.
Goodnight all.

Day Two of Memory......

A prairie warm and windy day in Raymore
Swirls of dry dust cluttered with crackled leaves
miss the sheltered bench
that invites all comers
to park themselves.
I'll kick off my shoes
and swing my bare feet
to cool them
in the shade of the tree
just outside the door to warmth and family.
Do I hear an echo from beyond the door?
‘Make sure you leave all that dirt and dust outside...’

“Where we find echoes, we generally find emptiness and
hollowness; it is the contrary with the echoes of the heart.”
                                                          ~ John Frederick Boyes

In Memory of Olga Wulff

Crabapple jelly ~
crystal clear and deep pink,
magically appeared
in plain mason jars
slathered on warm homemade bread
with warm butter and good strong coffee at the kitchen table.
Strong hands picked the apples,
prepared the apples
ground the flour
kneaded the bread to make
crusty thick slices.
A strong woman who loved and laughed
while she worked for all of her family
giving each of us a place in her home and her heart.
You will be sorely missed and always loved.
Your memory is in my heart forever.
Love you Mom

A mom’s hug lasts long after she lets go.”

Under currents....

Under currents
fluid and beautifully violent
push deep and vast waters
up from silted ocean floor
to pool and froth;
gigantic wet fingers rising up,
rolling and rattling smooth pebbles
that wait to be scooped to the depths.

“The least movement is of importance to all nature.
The entire ocean is affected by a pebble.”
~ Blaise Pascal

We shall remain nameless...

...and faceless.
But our brilliance!
Fascinating and fun!
Words falling
from our pens,
like orange gold
leaves from a tree.

Metaphor and Memory

A good mood
swing sways gently.

Solid seating and sturdy ropes anchored
from a broad branch
of the family tree.

"In every conceivable manner, the family
is our link to the past, bridge to the future."
 ~ Alex Haley
