Tide Pull

Mounds of words tumble and spread through my mind this morning like speckled, colourful pebbles polished by waves washing up or falling back at the shores of any beach at high tide or low tide
rustling with conversations
but never showing themselves
until the water recedes
leaving them quiet and still
waiting for the next wave
to instil them with the energy to speak.

“A gem cannot be polished without friction,
nor a man perfected without trials.”

Magnetized Memories

Fridge Magnets
Decorations to greet me
in art,
in song
in family
in travel
acceptance
of so many blessings
past and present
Gifts to my eyes
a smile to my face
warm fuzzies to my heart
as I write at my table.

“Just luxuriate in a certain memory, and the details will come.
It’s like a magnet attracting steel filings.”
Frank McCourt, author

Surrounding Me

Distractions surround me
when I write

But when I look up
they are silently waiting

That picture is crooked
Could I write about that?

The cupboard needs tidying
What would a kitchen story be like?

Going outside looks like fun
So many people on the street with stories.

My shoes need polishing….
just like my writing!

I want to bake bread
No time for that right now

Acceptance comes with a sigh…..
I’ve dribbled away all my writing time!

“Eighteen pockets in one suit? I haven’t the time.”

Not Even a Whisper

I had a dream
The words flowed
Lines were ordered
Three verses
I was pleased

In my dream
I felt on the cliff edge of awakening
I said to myself with surprise
I’ve written my blog post
I was pleased

Time passed
Only a few minutes
With lamps alight, I sipped my tea
Words had dissolved into my dreamworld!
I was puzzled.

For only a moment
I reached for even one word
To pull the poem back into the light
No word cried out - even in the tiniest of whispers
Acceptance was all that could be.

In this moment
Words struggled forth
Lines ordered enough
Five verses
I am pleased.

does not flow until the faucet is turned on.”

In the Morning

In the morning
Before the day truly begins
Sun still coming up
From down below our spinning world
There is silence in still sleeping homes

In the morning
When hot green tea reaches my tastebuds
My insides waken just a bit more
Hinting of the time to be ready
To walk, to exercise, to eat, to rest

In the morning,
Plans for the day swirl in my head
Lining up with the tick of the clock
Settling and setting the pace for the day
Accepting the challenge to move forward into living.

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
~ J.K.Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

My Birthday Gift

Breakfast
At the Marina sun shining on distant sailboats
A delicious beginning to this special day
Stuffed and content to be with my family

Weather
turned cold, blustery and very wet.
My grand-dogs were more than happy to run in the park.
The rest of us? Unwilling to accept the cold.

Birthday stroll
Warm, dry and happy.
The Royal BC Museum
let us share all the warmth.
(and a gift of beautiful polished rocks)

Thank you Jeff, Jason and Corette!
