Good On Ya!

There is at least one person out there that remembers the night shifts as a student nurse. Young women in charge of wards full of sick patients who believed in the nursing staff and their care. The catch was that those nurses were young women who just might have been more nervous in their starched uniforms than having a strong inner feeling of confidence. New knowledge of healing and healthcare encouraged and supported the confidence of youth felt a bit wobbly.

Tonight was an especially long shift. As I was finishing I thought about the two young nurses taking over from me. Neither looked nervous. Both looked confident. So I was confident in the care our patients would receive. I so respect the bravery of all the young nurses that are stepping forward into the fascinating and challenging world of nursing.

Paying the Price

Risk is the price you pay for opportunity.

Just a line from a TV series
But one that seems to make sense
Yet in the midst of seizing any opportunity
If one respects the
   Situation
     Individuals involved
Is the risk less risky?
Could there be opportunity within the risk?
Just a thought.

This Bunch of Golden Orbs

Catching my attention
this bunch of golden orbs on the wrong side of the fence.

This weathered fence attempting to respect boundaries between properties but for the tiny space between boards it would have been successful.

All it took was one tiny green tendril seeking sunlight for growth to continue.

To Name A Law

To be content
when all about you
is argument and dissent
is to be swimming
against current opinions

To be content
when all about you
is disrespect and ridicule
is to step out of
power struggles

To be content
when all about you
begs to have disorder and chaos
is to respect a universal law
The Law of Peace and Acceptance

To be content
while standing up for beliefs
can be more unbalancing than chaos
while opinions still differ
yet open the door for compromise.

“Smile, breathe and go slowly.”

Maple Syrup and Screen Doors

Maple syrup stirred into tinkling ice tea when my only thought had been sugar water.

Suites miss the slam of a screen door
but the quiet whoosh of the patio door
brings the past into today.

Spinning out and weaving
ideas, speculations and perceptions
respecting family history past and present brings sweet nuances into my home that remain after family guests turn towards their home.

and you will always feel at home.”

Change is Here - Temporarily

And today it is cold -
Well not really cold
Windy and cooler, so…...
Such a dramatic temperature drop also has my respect.
back to Victoria weather
layered clothing, wearing long jeans, sandals (without socks)
walking on the Breakwater at Ogden Point
with Janet and Robin
wind churned the ocean
threatened to tear the coffee cup from my hand
choppy, gray waves splatted and splashed against the rocks below
gray skies with shards of blue covered us.
farther up Dallas Road
gulls swooped and dived with the currents
wind surfers and sailers bested the winds
their colorful sails filled with the cold blasts
leaping high out of the water, they splashed down
only to rise up and surf with the roiling waves.
Then home to pork chop stew and warmth
Yesterday’s heat only a memory.
