Heart Space

The energy of space
undefined and quiet
a waiting void
open to be filled.

Home spaces
define and adorn easily
with noisy clutter or quiet order
given time and thought.

Undefined heart space,
bubbling with chaotic emotion, sorts unsurely through hoards of jewels and rubble seeking foundation.

Undefined heart space
also sings aloud with grace and joy
cherishing life and grateful for foundations furnished for body, mind and soul.

“In so far as one denies what is, one is possessed by what is not,
the compulsions, the fantasies, the terrors that flock to fill the void.”
~ Ursula K. LeGuin

Fragments ~1

Fragments of energy
Soul and mind split,
searching for truth and love
Guide posts of inner wisdom
faint whispers through swirling snowy static of a seizure

Fragmented energy
never rests
never settles
like a child frightened and lost

Energy fragments
like pieces of old clothing
patched, frayed and wearing thin
hurled away then grasped back
into the safety of heavy sleep.

“At the heart of personality is the need to feel a sense
of being lovable without having to qualify for that acceptance.”
~ Paul Tournier

A Humble Tribute to Alice Munro

Writing
crafting of words
stories to tell, poems to rhyme
songs to be sung, essays that teach
lists for groceries and errands to run

Writing
spends energy gathered from life
woven and knitted in wordy multicoloured fabric
stories short in the telling and long lasting reads

Writing
a practice for soul to express wisdom, emotion and belief
freedom to shape stories, ideas and to muse.

“In twenty years I’ve never had a day when I didn’t have to think
about somone else’s needs. And this means
the writing has to be fitted around it.”
~ Alice Munro

Ground Water

Ground water
seeps and creeps
puddling and draining
streaming into
rivers, lakes and seas
rattling pebbles
steeping everglades
racing rapids
quiet ponds
roaring waterfalls
energy turbined into power

Water’s misty mesh
in clouds, in rain, in each droplet
falling into ground water
life sprouting
grass growing
trees rooting
insects birthing
reptiles swimming
birds and animals drinking
humanity toasting

Water ~ fluid life energy.

“Water is the driving force of all nature.”
~ Leonardo da Vinci

Book Review: The Idea of Perfection by Kate Grenville

A fascinating read that wanders through small town life in a hot and dusty Australian landscape.
Two city folk, Douglas Cheeseman, an engineer, and Harley Savage, a museum consultant, come invited to Karakarook for different and very disparate purposes. They are strangers to these country citizens and to each other. From this Kate Grenville has penned a story both humourous and tragic. This is a story of the inner energies built from traumatic life experiences, of the manifestations of suppressed thought, beliefs and memories and finally a story of the coming together of individuals and a community despite all of these distortions.

“She had judged herself, and put herself away in a cage marked dangerous.”

Seasonal Energy

Wild winds whistle through trees and around corners.
Leaves gold and red thrown unceremoniously into cold evening damp.
Spits and splashes of rain threaten downpours in the night.
Clouds, fluffed and golden, race furiously across darkening sky.
Autumn chill arrives with brazen bluster in Victoria tonight.

“Listen! The wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves,
We have had our summer evenings, now for Octorber eves!”
~ Humbert Wolfe

Words of Gratitude

Words come to me slowly tonight with a halting and uncertain energy.
Blue sky and sunshine filtered through the trees this morning.
An excursion to the heart of the city yielded success in the art of driving Sunday Vancouver streets to achieve a sought after goal.
This lovely and warm early fall day prefaced an early Thanksgiving meal with family and friends gathered together in laughter and love.
Our meal with no frills of gourmet recipes, china or linen had all the pieces together - turkey, potatoes, salad, and dessert(s).
Few words, then, are needed except words of gratitude
for each person, each morsel and each feeling that made up the whole of this day.
“All that we behold is full of blessings.”
~ William Wordsworth
