Believe in Yourself

Emotions will never reach tomorrow

~ too fluid unless we hang on

The dips and the dives of

those slippery ‘feels’ change

with the tides of each day

The tides of tomorrow will be different

maybe calm or steady or wild

so belief in yourself and

the life that you live is

the rudder that steers you through life.

Gate Keeper

Epilepsy walks with me

using the same feet that

carry the rest of my body.

To understand that was not easy.

Epilepsy was in my brain.

Take a pill and seizures will

stop being unpredictable.

Slowly, awkwardly, I learned

that life with epilepsy had

to become a relationship.

A relationship of respect.

Not mutual, but very much

my own responsibility

To understand that was not easy.

Epilepsy is in my brain,

without its own intelligence.

So I am its gate keeper.

You will not live forever. Don’t wait.”

Being

To know one’s being after

all the glorious mess of a day

is to allow it to blossom

in the quiet of the evening.

Back Up, Go Around

Trust yourself ~

‘Sounds easy and does hard’.

Breaking a decision

    into chunks

makes life manageable

each step simple,

hampered only by emotional baggage

with time between to change your mind

Trust yourself

to back up and go around

or turn down a different road

when necessary or

if a more charming road appears

Trust yourself.

mind can explain it. Trust what your bones know.”

Notes to Self

“Get the organized-brain person on board”

Anxiety about upcoming Christmas contributions sends the chaotic part of my brain into a twirl and a panic.

“Put your daily routine into gear”

(I have to give myself directions sometimes)

A good day’s work rolled out:

Feed the sourdough starter

order groceries for Christmas

Set bread dough for baking in the afternoon

Bake the bread

Shovel powder dry snow off the balcony

(There was a blizzard yesterday)

Make granola for the next 10 days

(Just about missed an ingredient, but I fixed it)

and everything in-between

My last note to self:

“Brush your teeth and go to bed.”

“You must find the place inside yourself where nothing is impossible.”

No Worries

I missed it ~
the whispers in my ear

the tightness in my midsection

the frantic busy in my head

I looked around ~

Did I forget something?

Did I turn the stove off?

What have I missed?!

It did feel good ~

the whispers were kinder

I just felt ….. good!

And perhaps calm?

I got comfortable with it

This peace of mind.

This spacious feeling

This day full of me.

Notes to Self

Margins of red ink

scribbled all around

the neat black ink

marching line by line

up and down the page

Notes to self about

spelling, ideas, focus,

qualities, punctuation

later to be woven into

the 400th manuscript.

Uncertain Belief

When I was a part of

the vast army of nurses,

an employee,

practicing my craft,

I had a certain belief.

A belief in,

not only nursing and nurses,

but the frailties of the human body. The ways of walking, talking, coping with the pain and strife of whatever condition was within them.

Now, as a woman alone,

my belief was confused

and many days still is.

Confused about my place in all this emptiness;

where do I step;

am I enough;

are there rules I should follow.

Until, step by step, I learned

to adapt lessons from the past,

to find the steps,

the guideposts,

the anchors for this retired life

and to believe in myself.

“Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.”

Being Yourself

Sinking into myself

I feel the reality and

wonder of being.

This human, biological life

filled with spirit, soul

and a solitary purpose to be.

Creative Solitude ~ SOLITUDE ~ Theme for September 2023

"Solitude isn’t all………

Over time, it gets………

Loneliness and solitude…

Individual moments……

Time and money may….

“Unless I’ve learned…

Dreams are the ultimate…..

Everyone needs………

“Loneliness is the poverty of self; solitude is richness of self.”

~ May Sarton
