Busy Bee-ing

Good to the last drop
of flowery sweetness
a busy bee tends to
growth and life cycle
without thought
or concern to politics,
religion or economics

“Bees have so much to offer us if we only listen.”

Once Upon a Time

The former Customs House by the Inner Harbour in Victoria
Where there were once
polished floors and creaking doors, silent elevators and carpeted stairs, now there is only air.

Where once were heard
insistent telephones and old fashioned typewriters, hurrying
foot steps and business voices,
city street noise fills the space.

Where once men and women
climbed the ladders of success or just made their daily bread, their ghosts grow restless at midnight.

“Old places have soul.”
~ homeowner Sarah Anderson

Urban Elders

Urban mushrooms grow wild ~
yet take advantage of
soil, sunshine and a wee bush.

“Nature alone is antique, and the oldest art a mushroom.”

Mileage

Coming home was easy ~

sort of.
Between and after airports full of travellers,
sleek full airplanes and bustling buses shuttled my suitcases and me
all the way
from the prairies of
my far away home in Regina, Sask.
over mountains to
my today home in Victoria, B. C.

From there to here, here to there
I button my ethereal sweater
to keep my heart full ~
a challenge that I gladly choose to accept.

“Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye.”

Still

Still backing up
into my day to day
finding that roots have grown
despite my trip away.

Still moving forward
multiple errands to chase,
routines waiting patiently
for steady steps and even pace.

Still along with me
ideas that colour each and every day ,
wrapped in hugs and smiles cherished and shared
creating sunshine in rain or in skies covered in grey.

“Memories are not made by standing still.”

Heart's Ease ~ #1

An accidental photo on the one sunny day!

Suitcases unpacked  ~
An easy task ~ everything in it’s place
Mail opened ~ tomorrow's plans reviewed.
Return to the ordinary of rote and rhythm

Unpacking a week of sweet memories
A much more pleasant task
One to be sipped and savoured
Providing spice to  ordinary life.

Memories grow roots
when nestled in our hearts
like soft cushions ~
heart's ease for any roughened edges

“Nostalgia is a file that removes the rough edges from the good old days.”
~ Doug Larson

No Words

I have no words tonight.
They are all lying quietly
in the wake of this past week.
No words except
    Gratitude
   Joy
          Love
for family born and family made
for old friends gathered in great bouquets
~ I have no words tonight.

“It has always taken me a long time to think of something to say,
and then more often than not I say it to myself.”
~ Wendell Berry, Jayber Crow
