Without a Map

Yesterday vanished into memory,

today ~ a birthday delight with family,

tomorrow is an open, uncharted road.

A Hard Choice

It was a tough one.

A community Choir event ~

pre-scheduled

A four year old’s birthday party

sudden opportunity this morning

Both set for the same time:

no choice?

Both events involved singing:

Aftermath

When the dust of the party

settles and food is put away.

When the dishes are done,

  and order has been restored

When energy is

  stunted, stilled and sluggish

There is only one thing to do:

wrap up in a cup of tea,

with a blanket, a good book

      and the glow of memory.

but to participate in it fully, deeply, wildly.”

Birthday Cakes and Games

What word floats by the window of my mind?

The view from a window

is so often the same.

Houses and trees, maybe a man walking his dog,

or a woman walking with purpose to work,

perhaps children playing hopscotch on the sidewalk.

Only the happy sounds of their play reaching my ears.

Each one of these

has their own story,

stories that

I’ll never know.

But stories that

belong to them,

stuck in

back pockets as

the man or

the woman go on

their way through

the next 24 hours.

And for the children,

their stories have just begun

with birthday cakes

and games of hopscotch.

we grow old because we stop playing.”

Celebrating a Friend

Celebration of a birthday

To Grow and Learn

Birthday parties are fun

But birthdays are special

‘How old are you?”

A frivolous question

when a family celebrates the

presence of a precious child

in their parenting world.

Glossy, colourful bags full of

toys and clothes, games and puzzles

set the stage for creative play, learning and growth.

Planned and Spontaneous!

September 22, 2014
Qu'Appelle Valley

Well, that was a day! A wiener roast with friends out in the country at a sweet 3 year old's birthday party. Successful and fun! I was a mere passenger on a great drive there and back. We drove past beautiful rust, brown, and gold prairie fields that are just amazing. Then back in the city, shopping for crafts and whatever else took our fancy ~ only partially successful. After all of that it was definitely time for coffee and cake - a day of the visiting that covered that last two weeks and multitudes of family updates, needed a break. We ended the evening at the French Press on Albert Street. Successful, with more visiting and just a darn good day.

“At the end of the day, if I can say I had fun, it was a good day.”

~ Simone Biles

p.s. Too busy talking to take an updated photo, but the colours are the same as in 2014!
