The Heart of A Tree

What did I notice today?

In the heat

my time short

I didn’t pause,

but on the way back

I noticed it again ~

The heart shaped tree stump.

A tree cut almost down to the ground.

 To count the fading rings ~ impossible

   It showed me

    the inner beauty of trees,

their hearts,

    the wood, leaves and shade

 we take so much for granted

lives, grows and breathes.

“A tree is beautiful, but what’s more, it has a right to life;

like water, the sun and the stars, it is essential.

Life on earth is inconceivable without trees.”

~ Anton Chekhov,

playwright, short story writer

(1860 - 1904)

This is A Moment

This is a moment when

memories tug at my heart

begging me to tell their stories.

Stories of the first day

trying to ride a bicycle,

of all dressed up for

the first day of school,

of the brick wall of that

school where we bounced

rubber balls with white, blue and red

raced each other on

a sliver filled teeter totter

Skipping ropes - Double Dutch so much fun!

Hop Scotch on the sidewalk at recess

Swinging on seat polished swings

Each of these moments

of fun tucked away in my

heart for a moment for story.

“As long as there are memories, yesterday remains.”

Silent Tears

After a thunderstorm

rain leaves behind only

the steady beat of

drip, drip from the eaves

When a heart breaks

sadness slips over eyelids

in silence.

“It is such a secret place, the land of tears.”

~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery, writer

(1900 - 1944)

Brush Strokes

A high and mighty wind

A broad blue canvas set higher

A palette of cloud set between

gifted a busied weekday

with strokes of genius

Lifting my sight to the sky

I felt my heart and soul expand.

“On the canvas of life,

Every sweep of the brush matters,

Counts for something…"

~ Scott Hastie, poet

Then it is Time

Relax and breathe ~

  when your heart is crying,

  when the world is too heavy,

  when the wind is too wild

~ it seems impossible.

It is the only solution

  when we know that

  we are no bigger

  than the air in our lungs

~ then it is time to

breathe deeply and relax.

“Your breath is your best friend.”

~ Professor Ramchandra Gandhi,

Philosopher and teacher

Messaging

Listen

  Listen for changes that

come with a shift in

     consciousness,

        alertness,

            knowledge

to reshape beliefs,

  to mould the heart

Your mind will tell you

    the direction to take

      the star to follow

The message may not be

     written in words, or

          sung in song but

from deep within

   laden with intuition.

“The intuitive mine is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant.

We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift,”

~ Albert Einstein

"Tides" ~ CHANGE Theme for February 2026

Come with me…….

Hurry into the……

A walk into……

Nicely done!

Getting on with…….

Easing my heart……..

“February is the uncertain month, neither black nor white

but  all shades between by turns, nothing is sure.”

~ Gladys Hasty Carroll, novelist

On the Rise

August 2024

Over a year ago, I began

a sourdough starter ~

bubbly and full of life.

Flattened and lazy,

On the watch for

mould or a flat taste.

no mould appeared

taste is sharp and sour!

What was I doing wrong?

Too long in the cold

fed once a week!

No reason to bubble.

    ~~~~~~~
So it is with spirit
Excitement in life
shrinks in the cold
flattens without life
stirred and kept warm,
danced and out of breath
What excites me?
ideas that beg for the written word
story that stirs my soul to laughter or tears
music to tap my toes and sway my hips
What excites your heart and mind?
“For here I hope begins our lasting joy.”
~ William Shakepeare
(Re: Sourdough restoration: I’m keeping it on the cupboard and feeding it once a day for a while until it’s back to it’s bubbly self. Maybe a week? In this cold weather, I’m not going far from home.A metaphor for life - it I keep my life in the cold)
