Far from the Chaos

Earthly beings in

forest, mountain and plain.

tied up in a world burning

with fire and with hate,

yet with each new offspring

there is hope

bringing new growth

before the chaos is stilled.

Sinking into despair binds us

without preparing you or me

to be as tender leaves in spring

for we all still live each day.

Though many branches

may be burned or lost,

the spark of life and kindness

lives on in our roots.

It is with humility that

I share these words

from my cocoon

far from the chaos.

“Perhaps it is controlling the chaos within more than the chaos without.”

Moving Memories

When the rocking chair sits empty

day after day I sense it’s loneliness.

But then rocking chairs don’t have feelings. It is only my feelings

that long for the days of babies

that need rocking to sleep,

toddlers working the rocking chair

for the first time. Hard work!

So, I take my book and rock gently til my head rests where my dad’s head would be.

Rocking chairs are more than furniture

~ they are moving memories.

“There is a peacefulness, an air of reflection, about

a rocking-chair that attaches to no other moving object.”

~ Wallis Simpson, socialite

On an Afternoon Walk ~ Pretty Faces

Of the many fascinations I see along the streets, these pretty faces peeked out at me surrounded by brilliant green, orange and purple plantings ~ like the pretty faces of babies and children in families and communities large and small. Their progress through life depends on the foundation they are given.

“The innocence of a child is like a delicate flower,

easily crushed by the harsh realities of life.”

~  Ian McEwan, The Innocent
