Faded Blossoms

Petals strewn upon the wind

Too frail to stay upon the tree

Winds wild, hot and dry

Fade colour from bright to pale

Pink drifts on the world below

Gather softly in curbs and corners

While the tree flowers still

Thro’ morning, noon and night.

“Flowers whisper ‘beauty’ to the world, even as they fade, wilt, fall.”

To Breathe and Bloom

Give it some space

The impulse

The longing

The wish or the dream

Give it some space

To breathe

To become real

To feel it bloom

Give it some space

The impulse

The longing

The wish or the dream.

“Create the space and a bigger life happens.”

Pastel Petals and Lilacs

Today's wind stripped trees

of pastel pink petals

deep purple lilacs stand ready.

Blossom Time

Redolent blossoms

Crisped

I thought it odd, lacy baby’s breath with

no blossoms or white blossoms still tightly

wrapped within themselves, their delicate

stems a gauzy cloud. No gardener was there

to ask my questions so I looked to the pink roses, blossoming through the white picket fence, a beautiful backdrop to the spent baby’s breath. Bravely blooming they did seem a reminder of the cruel heat of the past week’s end, explaining the missing dainty white flowers on the gauzy stems.

“We should enjoy this summer, flower by flower,

as if it were to be the last one we’ll see.”

~ André Gide, French author

Barely Unfurled

What drew me to this rose today?

the pink of it’s newness did call to me but did not notice and pass.

Close, I took this image as if the delicate rose deserved a place on this page. Or maybe I deserved to

carry it’s tenderness with me, knowing that ‘this too shall pass’ as the summer also blossoms only to fade and vanish

never to be seen again but a new tender rose will blossom on the same rosebush in the new year.

“Come out here where the roses have opened. Let soul and world meet.”

Buds and Blossoms

Buds and blossoms of spring

warm my heart with

their dainty pink promise

Happy Mother’s Day!!

Mothering continues

as long as child and mom

Nor should it be any different.

For if taken from me,

a vast hole in my heart

would not easily mend.

Should any mom go missing,

another often fills the gap

with the same love and learning.

Their name may not be ‘mom’

but their heart is called ‘mom.

And with all the growing

from birth into toddlers years,

pre-teens,

  adolescence,

young adulthood and onward

child~parent blossoms through

joys and sorrows;

    health or sickness.

For each mom who grows

alongside her child,

another mom will be born

in another day or time

to learn the ways of being.

“Motherhood is hard enough without judgement

from others who don’t know the whole story.”

~ Sarah Addison Allen,  First Frost

Whoosh!

Natural Grace

There is a natural grace to trees

in the arch of their branches,

the grand height of ancient red sequoias,

the twists and turns of climbing roses,

the graceful droop of fragile wisteria blossoms and thousands more. On my walk home, the natural grace and simplicity of ordinary leaves against the backdrop of a rumpled tree trunk, caught my eye and slowed my step.

(Cell phone cameras come in very handy.)

“Grace, like water, flows to the lowest part.”

On an Afternoon Walk - Rose Garden Gratitude

To say thank you sometimes can feel rote, reflexive. To have an opportunity to express deep gratitude to a complete stranger did not feel rote or reflexive today. This woman’s roses, their scent perfuming the very warm air, had given a good friend of mine pleasure from the distance of a photograph. Overcoming my shyness, I told her of my friends appreciation and thanked her.

“No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks.”

Shy

      Behind fences

  shaded by greenery

flowers blossom quietly.
