Any Other Day

Any other day

could have been filled

with sunshine or raindrops

but today is

not like any other day

even though filled with

the decisions of any other day.

Which mug to fill with tea,

which task to do,

which part of life to live,

which time to be here or there,

which friends and family to enjoy.

Any other day

could have been filled

with sunshine or raindrops

but not the same ones that filled this day.

24 Hours

You don’t need to run away

You don’t need to cry

Clouds will do that for you

 Their tears trickle down in

a fine mist or

       full fat drops

Wind blows them away

  Pushes them onto the next

prairie or woodland

       mountains or out to sea

the sun is allowed to shine

in skies clear and blue

or velvet black with

        star shine and crescent moon

You don’t need to run away.

You don’t need to cry.

Behind the Door

A blustery cold day with snow

not sure it was to be rain or snow

Streets wet and glistening,

hovering grey clouds,

soggy piles of multicoloured leaves

lay exhausted against curbs and fences

In such a walk one never knows

what’s just around the corner.

Robins, wrens and sunshine behind

a faerie door! Little people live

and play inside this gnarled old tree

with green lawns, bees and wildflowers.

my journey to the library

became a happier mission,

my steps easier, my heart lighter,

just because of that faerie door.

“Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale.”

Sunshine through the Mist

Lingering on the sidewalk,

I saw them smiling up at me,

sunshine faces as a cloud blanket

misted the morning light.

“Why hurry over beautiful things?

Why not linger and enjoy them?

Spring Tease

Sidewalks dry

down to the cement;

until they are mushy

or under water.

Streets clear and open;

except for muddy lakes at

street corners or

sidewalk to sidewalk.

The sun was warm,

the wind - well it was windy
but not full of icy fingers.

But the sunshine on a bus
full of serious passengers,

played peek a boo with me

while her grandparents watched and smiled.

Probably a year old,

all dressed in pink,

she saw me smiling at her.

Her brown eyes twinkled,

she covered her pudgy face with little fat fingers,

splayed them into the air and

we played across the aisle

while the mud splattered bus rumbled on.

Plaid Sunshine

Being awed by plaid sunshine
         has little purpose
      but to warm my heart.

Sweetness and a Mystery

Sunshine and errands ~
a matched pair for getting things done.

At days end, it’s time

for an Oreo confection

with a latte, a Louise Penny

mystery, and her Inspector Gamache.

A New Day

Snow melted away in sunshine strong ~ dust and debris of winter still clings to sidewalks and streets, puffed up clouds ride high while

hot metallic low slung cars, released from winter hideaways, slither between service vans and sedans, sun glints off their brightness

buses, sidewalks and streets

fill with springtime throngs ~

down-filled coats, toques, gloves and parkas traded in for shirt sleeves and light jeans.

Into the Blue

Before sunshine brightens and

wind strokes trees and flowers

the full moon silvered the world

and shone through my window

lighting the page as I wrote ~

and nestled into the treetops

while the sky softened

into the blue.

“Go slowly, my lovely moon, go slowly.”

Summer Satisfaction

Under the bridge of

easy-going clouds and melting sunshine

a swirling lime~pineapple ice cream cone, Irish cream iced coffee and a good book satisfied my afternoon.

Simplicity

Air seems clearer when

sunshine releases

ice from shore

Air seems clearer when

a simple thank you

is sufficient.

how we experience life and the world.”

Now

Stepping back from
the brilliant whiteness

that is my future,

I relax into the sunshine

that is now.
