Adrift

Scattered clouds of yesterday

adrift in the evening sky ~

gilded by tonight’s setting sun.

“The sky and the sun are always there.

It’s the clouds that come and go.”

Good Morning

A good morning

That’s what I call it

The sun is up

Even if it’s behind thunder clouds

Even if it is pouring rain

As long as I’m awake and

putting my feet on the floor

it is a good day

there may be

      tears,

   frustrations,

             interruptions

but they may be mixed with

  smiles,

   sunshine,

     contentment and

the beauty of trees,

  grass and flowers;

the kindness the community

as I go about my day.

If I believe

that all of the good

is coloured grey,

I will miss so much!

and so I wish you

A Good Evening!

“A day is a day. It’s just a measurement of time. Whether it’s a good day

or a bad day is up to you. It’s all a matter of perception.”

~ Donald L. Hicks, Look into the Stillness

Treasures

Cool evening

Sky still aglow

Children playing

in the school yard

Teenagers tossing a

frisbee in a parking lot

Two women walking

their tiny dogs a block away

A small evergreen showing off

little brown cones that will be seed.

In the Early Evening

A crescent moon

A single star

a darkening sky

no cloud shadows

fore or aft

in the quiet

of early evening.

Being

To know one’s being after

all the glorious mess of a day

is to allow it to blossom

in the quiet of the evening.

“Inhale and hold the evening in your lungs.”

A Measure of Peace

Warm and mellow,

music softens the hour,

bringing to the soul

measured notes of peace

found only in eventide.

“Music is the language of the spirit.

Sleepy

The evening grows late.

Great yawns remind me

that my body clock works.

Time ticks inexorably onward

as evening grows later still.

An Evening Out

A screen shot from a previous event in B.C.
Last evening, I enjoyed dinner at the Casino Restaurant and took in the show at Casino Regina featuring Jake Vaadeland and the Sturgeon River Boys. I was in the company of an Epilepsy group, some I had never met and some I knew from the 1980’s.

Jake Vaadeland and the Sturgeon River Boys are a Saskatchewan group that tour throughout Canada and Internationally. Rockabilly and Blue Grass music is the signature music of these dedicated musicians. Guitar, banjo and a base cello kept audience clapping and me tapping my toes. Humour and banter carried the evening in conversation with the audience. Old classics and new tunes were played with enthusiasm, with several of them written by Jake Vaadeland. Their encore was a medley of their talent and love of music.

“Life and love go on, let the music play.”

~ Johnny Cash

Author's note: the one photograph I took was not successful, thus my use of the above screen shot. They do need to be recognized.

When

When leaves of trees are still

white puffs of cloud hold aloft

When air holds silence until

beautiful music slow dances

When evening light darkens

my breath slows and softens

When leaves of trees are still,

tiny stars wish all a good night.

Wide Open

What a lovely evening!

Wide open to the clouds in the sky

Vibrating with cheerful birdsong

Moist with the freshening smell of rain

Crashing thunder fades to distant rumble

And all is well.

“…So let us welcome peaceful evening in.”

~ William Cowper

A Special Time

A Special Time

Evening fell silently as it always has. Veronica was pleased. Some saw it as an end to the day, which she supposed it was. She had come to belief that it was the beginning of a special time.

Her children were gone into their own worlds. Her husband passed away shortly after their last child had left her with a too empty nest. Evenings had been difficult for her, but no more. An evening had become a time when she was without the distractions of the work world. She could concentrate on her latest quilting project or novel she was reading. Sometimes both. Occasionally she would be out to dinner with a friend or group of friends. Maybe to a concert or play. Phone calls to her children; taking an early evening walk. It was the daily beginning of her life outside of the work she did love. But she also knew she loved her life inside her home, so as the sun set, she cherished this special time.

“To think what is true, to sense what is beautiful and to want

what is good, hereby the spirit finds purpose of a life in reason.”

~ Johann Gottfried Herder, philosopher

Respect - RESPECT - Theme for July 2023

Roving through a meadow full of grasses and daisies……….

Eventide is when the air cools, the traffic thins and days end….

Saturdays come and go every seven days, filled with…….

Phillip was fascinated by his apprenticeship……

Entertaining them was a stressful situation ……

Communication is tempered by social mores……

Tempered glass bears the brunt…….

“Just as we expect others to value our boundaries, it’s equally

important for us to respect the boundaries of others.”

A Cool Evening

April snow dripping, dribbling into

     pools of water from

trees etched in black at sunset

“I hear the sounds of melting snow outside my window every night

and with the first faint scent of spring, I remember life exists.”

Eventide

In the quiet of home

when the busyness of the day

is put to rest, when only

the faint hum of the freezer

accompanies Mozart,

traffic noise is stilled

and the silent snow awaits

the moon, calm and peace

surround me like a light shawl

and I smile with contentment.

“It’s a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things

you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.”

~ Germany Kent
