Each Tomorrow

The little plant grew without my interference. Started out as one of three sprouts from a sweet potato that I hadn’t gotten around to eat. With a good chunk of sweet potato, I planted the sprouts. After several months, they sat in the soil looking sad. Two of the sprouts had dried up. I was going to throw it out but hesitated and set it outside. I had amended the soil with used coffee grounds and watered it now and then. I ignored it for the most part until one day I saw the tiniest little growth, and then a leaf. With the heat, it has become a lovely little plant that gives me one more leaf every couple of days. The beautiful little leaves make me happy!

Take nothing on its looks; take everything on evidence. There’s no better.”

A Postage Stamp Park

The heat of the day

did not dissuade me

from a walk down 15th Ave.

to see a small park

~ glorious flowers,

 park benches

One neighbourhood's

kindness to residents and passerby.

“The way to the park is an important part of the experience.”

6:30am Standoff

Leaves rustled

My kitty on alert, focussed

Barely a breath of wind

My book would have to wait

Two squirrels vying for the same branch

One scrambled higher

The other sat quietly and stared

At me?

At the black cat, hampered by a dumb leash,

desperately wanted to pounce.

Photo snapped, back to my book.

“Well, it may be humorous to you,

but it’s a very serious matter to the squirrels.”

Awakening

Not awake yet

shuffling through

the sludge of sleep,

walking and talking

until

movement shook me

gently awake

dregs of sleep drifting

like the heat of the day

settling into the trees

as the sun slips

   down and down

to the horizon

   painting the land in

deep yellows and golds.

With the soft breath

  of a cooling wind,

I walk on.

Prairie Flowers

In late afternoon

summer heat

tough prairie flowers

cheered my walk.

Strong Winds

The chaos in and around

  city

   town or

     country

like strong prairie winds

 that push aside

  all the growing things

   uprooting some, but

have no purchase on roots

  reaching deep,

   growing strong

     to nourish us tomorrow.

“Chaos is the score upon which reality is written”

All of Life

All of life is

   to prepare

     to anticipate

without sitting on the edge

but being aware

that life could be ruled

by others

  ~ people or situations ~

a naive thought,

   yet one that offers

strength and courage to choose the life that is given.

Today will shape tomorrow,

  and leave an interesting path

through the yesterdays of life.

“We may run, walk, stumble, drive or fly, but let us never lose sight

of the reason of the journey or miss a chance to see a rainbow on the way.”

~ Gloria Gaither, songwriter
