A Next Good Moment

Caring for the hope

I have in my heart

helps me to find

slivers of joy in each day.

For joy is often in-glorious,

but is aroma of good food,

   the kindness of friends,

the feeling of soft grass on bare toes,

         a babies gurgling laugh,

the rhythm of well loved music.

When I add up all these sparks of joy,

hope is restored to know

there is always a next good moment.

Through the Years

Coming into a world

so down trodden and

beaten, each child born

knows only of

hunger and a yearning

to be cared for.

With the blossom of youth,

accepting life as it has become,

the yearning is still to be loved.

In the journey of

   moments,

     years and

        decades

there is more doing than being

while beneath it all

remains the desire to be loved.

“We are all born for love. It is the principle

of existence and it’s only end.”

~ Benjamin Israeli, British Prime Minister & writer

The Boss of Me

Arguments seldom win anything

especially arguments that

run amok through a person’s mind.

All that mind chatter has

the faces and voices from

the distant past ~

everyone living rent free

at my beck and call  ~

until I give them

eviction notices

Time passes quietly but they wait

patiently for a so called ‘bad' day

to nail down squatters rights.

With each ‘eviction notice’

their voices lose strength until

I accept

that it really is my own voice

repeating these old messages.

Then I know I really am

the boss of me.

“Be mindful of your self-talk. It’s a conversation with the universe.”

Up for the Challenge ~ ACCEPTANCE ~ Theme for April 2026

Arguments seldom…

Coming into…

Caring for…

Excitement rolls…

Patience is…

Temptation to…

A day without…

Needing a…

Comfort and …

Entering life…

An Offer

Courage can restore order

  when a chaos of worries

    threatens to overwhelm,

Just a tiny bit of courage to

  take a deep breath,

    take one tiny step,

      to believe in that breath

Courage can restore order

  when tiredness dictates

    with an offer to rest.

Snow Fall

As if to convince us that

it was still winter,

the snow fell lightly,

a steady east wind brushing

it through the air. The beauty

of a gentle winter day. But

most of us are smart enough

to know that after today,

it’s time for winter to take

its frosty flakes and go home.

Just not today.

I hope

“…..winter is an exercise in waiting ~ for relief, for a bird to sing,

for the first purple crocus to push up through the snow”

~ Michelle Obama, Becoming

*Authors note: At the risk of repeating myself, this is the third year in a row that I have used this March snow fall picture. I’m still acclimating myself from my years away in locations when March is spring time!

Memory Lane

Kelowna Farmers Market 2008

Memory lane ~

always populated with

smiling faces and scenes.

Opportunity swirled me

back to my Texas journey;

onward to my Kelowna years

at Hazeldell Orchards.

Feeling Lubbock's hot dry air,

hearing and seeing tones of a

another land; the warm hearts

of colleagues in a golden time.

I could feel the carpeted halls,

step inside the curve of the

nursing station, as crowded

and busy as my memories

In Kelowna, air was moist and cool,

pears and apples were juicy and crisp

at my weekend ‘job’ where

the hearts were just as warm ~

a time when my nursing work

was set aside for a few days,

or a month, to live, laugh and

work outside while seasons changed.
