Like a Puzzle

Alone with

my thoughts

that swirl,

dip and dive

I am comforted

when

they shuffle

and regroup

like a puzzle

coming into focus.

Letting them play

their games in my head,

I can choose

which to keep and

which will serve

me in this life.

“The best thinking has been done in solitude.”

~ Thomas Edison

A Tiny Life

Each tiny life

Clings

Grows

Unfurls

Becomes one

Of the many

In the beginning

Delicate and precious

“Life is a series of tiny miracles.”

~ Mike Greenberg, radio host

Faded Blossoms

Petals strewn upon the wind

Too frail to stay upon the tree

Winds wild, hot and dry

Fade colour from bright to pale

Pink drifts on the world below

Gather softly in curbs and corners

While the tree flowers still

Thro’ morning, noon and night.

“Flowers whisper ‘beauty’ to the world, even as they fade, wilt, fall.”

~ Dr. Sunwolf

Then We Knew

“When life begins

   feeling too distant,

When, unknowingly,

   distances lengthen

Gaps form and

  waver all around……”

Gaps are invisible

   but filled with our lives

Distance is felt when,

from the blue, a note arrives

Then we know…..

    how long it has been.

“Distance was a dangerous thing, she knew. Distance changed people.”

~ Rohinton Mistry,  A Fine Balance

Author’s Note: the first three stanza’s were penned by one of my characters (Dez) from Episode 130 of Situationally Theirs. It is a story of two sisters that I wrote throughout the COVID 19 pandemic.

Where We Live

Come with me and

Listen to a story

Of birds and trees

And bumblebees

Of children dancing

In the rain

And the love of

kittens and of dogs

Of kitchen tables full of food,

Of laughter and of love

And all these things

Go round the world

With different songs

Afnd dress and voice.

We live, we love, we cry

No matter where we live.

“Stories are important, the monster said. They can be

more important than anything. If they carry the truth.”

~ Patrick Ness,  A Monster Calls

The Joy of Walking

Vancouver May 2015

Walking lets me stay

  under the broad sky

    cloudy or clear.

Walking lets me feel

   the rain on my face,

a snow flake on my nose,

       the wind combing my hair

Walking lets me feel

the world of nature all around

whether city or on the land.

Walking lets me move a body

  that is part of nature

   stiffened with the decades

but still walks a good clip

walking has been my life

  from morn til night

in my home or in the world

“Above all do not lose your desire to walk: every day I walk myself

into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness;”

~ Søren Kierkegaard

Layered Life

Layers

Not for a cake

each layer a story of life

a story of minutes,

days, perhaps decades.

Spilled milk

accolades

achievements

failures and

taking risks

Climbing

out of the muck

swimming

in clear or stormy waters.

Tracing the dust beneath your feet.

“Live in the layers not on the litter.”

~ Stanley Kunitz
