Entering life ~
happens each day.
Dreams fade in wisps,
disappearing in the light.
Each day is a choice to be.
What will you choose?

Writing daily about my journeys through books, movies and plays along with poetry, story, or an occasional wander into ideas, opinions or rants.

Comfort and space,
both needed
for breath to be easy.
In the space
of stars and moon
we know only breath.
The breath of the universe.
We have yet to discover
all the comforts of space.

Needing a nudge to take my turn
playing Scrabble is a sign that
visiting has overtaken game play.
Puts ‘need’ in perspective.
There are times when I choose
not to buy groceries even though
my cupboards and fridge
have empty spaces ~
the milk almost gone,
only one extra pound of butter,
broccoli is preferred
rather than the frozen beans.
My reason? The recipe calls for specifics!
What I need in that moment
is a bit of creativity, courage
~ it’s too easy to go out
for supper or order in.
This isn’t the old saw
‘think of the hungry kids’,
There is another old saw:
“Make do with what you have”.
Spices make all the difference,
internet search engines and
~ you remember them ~
recipe books, and imagination.

A day without writing
blinds me. Even so,
I putter along,
my mind still busy writing in
the invisible ink of thoughts.
When I look out the window
to see the orange tabby ~
king of the block ~
I imagine that he knows
where all the mice are,
or the friendly back door
where food is always
on the back step just for him.
Stories and poems trail along
while I do housework sorts of things,
like finding a fluff of cat hair
that resembles a mouse.
My pen seldom touches
the paper when I see these things.
Maybe they gather in my mind
like the dishes in my cupboards
to be used when needed.
A day without writing blinds me
with the glare of my thoughts.
“We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
~ Anaïs Nin
Temptation to change the world
is merely a wisp of a dream,
too great a task,
and too messy.
I walked to day,
just to the grocery store
for my prescription refill
and bananas.
I added a Bosc pear because
they taste good. Curious,
I took my blood pressure -
the machine showed ‘optimal’.
Then I spoke to a cheerful pharmacy tech
about the state of the weather outside.
Paying my bill, I packed my groceries
and my medication into my bag,
zipped up my jacket and headed home.
I looked up to check the clouds ~
rain this afternoon or possibly this evening? ~
Three blocks to walk, I skirted all the puddles,
rain stayed in the clouds. Home safe and dry.
Temptation to change the world
is merely a wisp of a dream,
too great a task,
and too messy.
“Action expresses priorities.”
~ Mahatma Gandhi
Patience is a lovely practice.
It lets me breathe.
See and hear life around me.
Quiets all the busy thinking
of the chattering should’s
and shouldn’t have’s
rolling through
my mind while I wait for
anything, something, everything.
It let’s me breathe in life around me;
hear all the life around me.
Patience is a lovely practice.
“Patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen
in a different order than the one you have in your mind.”
~ David G. Allen, author
Excitement rolls with life’s punches,
waiting for a walk in the park,
the latest movie,
the bloom of fireworks
over the prairie.
Why wait?
Because life should be a surprise
spreading across your face
warming your heart.
Excitement rolls with life’s punches,
To ease pains of yesterday and today
To strengthen the soul for tomorrow
To remember the joys of every day.
“For here, I hope, begins our lasting joy.”
~ William Shakespeare
