With Friends

Talking is a journey

with friends through

    yesterdays

  onto future dreams

Never orderly but burbling over pebbles of moments

   with a good wade through

  shallow waters of today.

“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art…

It has no survival value; rather it is one of

those things which give value to survival.”

~ C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

Treasures

Cool evening

Sky still aglow

Children playing

in the school yard

Teenagers tossing a

frisbee in a parking lot

Two women walking

their tiny dogs a block away

A small evergreen showing off

little brown cones that will be seed.

Cool evening

Sky still aglow

Today's Hope

I hope you felt kindness today

A salesman accepted the item I had not used. Rewrapped he could have denied it.

I hope you heard wonder today

The clerk told me she loved my hair ~ how the white has framed your face."

I hope you gave back today

At the bus stop, I helped a stranger make a phone call

No strings attached.

I hope you felt the sun today

Between the rain clouds the sun shone with warmth and comfort. No rain fell while I walked.

I hope only goodness for you today

It may be only one bright spot

A smile, a kindness, a cup of tea

Your goodness deserves it.

dark enough can you see the stars.”

~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Go with The Plan

What does one do with

a topsy turvy morning

when everything was planned

when part of the plan was

to be relaxed and be happy

interrupted by the forgotten

an attempt at reshuffling

to fit in the sudden

and still make breakfast.

only one ~

or maybe two things ~ to do

snatch calmness from the air

be still and keep moving

let go of the sudden and

go with the plan.

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do

with your one wild and precious life?

Never Pruned of Family

An old and stately tree grows

between sidewalk and fence

never pruned of family

feels and lives through seasons

lives a steady life to grow

wider each year.

Each spring branches out

tender sprouted limbs with

a new crop of leaves

roots growing deeper with time

between sidewalk and fence

an old and stately tree grows.

“The family is one of nature’s masterpieces.”

~ George Santayana,

philosopher and poet

Good and Ordinary

My soul is quiet tonight

after a good and ordinary day.

The sun shone.

The wind blew.

The bus was on time

both there and back.

On my mission, I was gifted

by the kindness of humanity

at crosswalks and in stores.

I saw the clouds shape and

move in the further up wind.

I ate my meals and fed my cat.

All of these things made

today special on this

good and ordinary day.

My soul is quiet tonight.

“…it is the sweet, simple things of life, which are the real ones after all.”

Sound Strange?

Today

a day off

sound strange?

no appointments,

shopping or gatherings.

Attending to home.

Home

where family& friends surround me

in memory, photographs and things.

Things

paintings, china, knick-knacks

ideas, gifts, and blankets

Today

a day off

sounds just right.

Home is what you take with you, not what you leave behind.”
