There It Went - YESTERDAY - Theme for August 2026

Yesterday remembers…

Entertaining choices….

Suspending time….

Time slipped….

Everything went…..

Recalling each…..

Dreading what…

Ambition to…..

Yawning despite…..

“I can’t go back to yesterday ~ because I was a different person then.”

~ Lewis Carroll, writer

(1832 ~ 1898)

That Real World

All of my tomorrows

have yet to come

I can plan,

           wish,

               hope,

     make my lists

but I’ll only know tomorrow

when it no longer has that name

when it has crept into today and

we awake to our choices in that real world.

“Reality is merely a illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”

~ Albert Einstein

The Heart of A Tree

What did I notice today?

In the heat

my time short

I didn’t pause,

but on the way back

I noticed it again ~

The heart shaped tree stump.

A tree cut almost down to the ground.

To count the fading rings ~ impossible

   It showed me

    the inner beauty of trees,

their hearts,

    the wood, leaves and shade

we take so much for granted

lives, grows and breathes.

“A tree is beautiful, but what’s more, it has a right to life;

like water, the sun and the stars, it is essential.

Life on earth is inconceivable without trees.”

~ Anton Chekhov,

playwright, short story writer

(1860 - 1904)

A Crack in the Sidewalk

A crack in the sidewalk,

jagged and out of place

and I asked myself why

it wasn’t neat and orderly.

The answer rose beside

the question: because the

earth moves. But it doesn’t

stop me from stepping over it

or for children to draw with

chalk for a game of hopscotch

A crack in the sidewalk, jagged

and in the place it was given.

“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”

~ Dr. Seuss

Schedules Be Gone

Summer time ~

a world of tomorrows

when schedules melt

    in the heat

  shift and sway

       with the wind to

relieve us of

  a tedium that has

become too normal  ~ when we

can go our own way like

a drive down a road dappled in sunlight,

      past grasses and wheat fields,

  stroll through a farmers’ market

share an outdoor concert with friends

or just relax on a beach while

children of all ages play in a crystal lake

to end the day in well earned sleep.

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.”

~ Charles Bowden, author

Bee Balm

 While buzzing, busy bees are

off nuzzling pollen from other

flowers in this Prairie garden,

these flowers are reaching,

ready to welcome them

when it’s time, while looking

stunning in the afternoon sun.

“The bees are summer-busy every sunny afternoon...”

~ Hal Borland, author, journalist, naturalist

(1900 - 1978)

An Old White Fan

An old white fan sits

swinging back and forth

to cool the room.

I do have a.c. but

love my little fan that

merely stirs the air

stagnant and stuffy with

summer heat. Its soft shush

as its breeze drifts across

the room is comforting.

How can something so simple

be so comforting?

It is one of those sounds

that has the same softness

as homemade bread,

a quilt made by a friend

or a tea kettle on the boil.

It’s just an old white fan.

“The air is all softness.”

 ~ John Keats
