For a Winter's Day

July 6, 2020

Where are the days

when birds dip and dive,

chirp and sing,

flowers bloom in brilliance

When blue skies are

polished and shone

by the sun,

latticed with cloud

When lakes are dotted

with water birds gliding

on the glistening waves,

or on long legs, wading by the shore.

It has been many months past

and is many months hence

~ For this winter’s day ~

Memory and belief will have to suffice

February!

White, white snow

sparkled and crunched

The brilliant sun’s warmth

only a memory

Blue skies wide,

streaked with wisping clouds.....

But it was too !@#$% cold ~

so I stayed in the house.

“February is just plain malicious. It knows your defences are down.”

Noise #2

When the bristling

noise has ended,

calmer voices prevail

until political

thrust and parry begins.

“Living as we do in an age of noise and bluster, success is now measured

accordingly. We must all be seen, and heard, and on the air.

~ Daphne du Maurier, The “Rebecca” Notebook: And Other Memories
