Under the Blanket

stay cozy under the blanket ~

  normal feels good

    but not strong.

don’t have to surrender

  to belief.

That would take energy ~

feeling ‘not 25 anymore’.

a distressing thought.

at both ages ~ lying down,

  feet up feels the same.

No worries about being tired,

  being out of balance,
being afraid of our own mortality.

With every age and stage of life

~ being in the world changes.

How anyone adjusts

to these minute changes ~

one of life’s great mysteries.

But adjust we do with

the same wants and needs -

balance shifting from wants to needs.

But oh, how do we still

 ‘want’ the bright shiny things.

“I fall into all kinds of inauthenticity

when I conspire to forget my mortality.”

This Little Muse

A fragment of thought

fluttered into the light,

lit on my finger,

rested long enough

to pen this little muse.

Fluttering away into

the cool night air,

I could only wish it well.

Beneath the Snow

like yesterday’s promises

  a light skiff of snow

lay gently on fallen leaves.

Into the Outside

To take out pencil and notebook, I must put my head down to the page.

To grasp the songs of the birds,

  to witness children at play,

to marvel at the calm elegance of pelicans ~ I must.

I could stand still

 breathe in those scenes ~

   and I do.

Marvelling at the vast nature

  that surrounds me lending

    beauty to my day

~ even if just for a moment.

When I want to capture in words

  each lovely scene,

   create story around them,

I must put my head down

while my pencil scribes in my notebook.

“..take out lovely pencil and notebook to find a few touching, kissing words.”

A Simple Screwdriver

I like fixing things.

Not toasters or

anything electrical

but getting out a screwdriver

or wrench excites me!

Always a good solid feeling

when my independent streak

has been nurtured by

a simple screwdriver.

There’s cleaning to be done

if work is to be effective for

more than a couple of hours.

Like my vacuum cleaner ~

If layered dust is not cleaned away,

it just will not work good enough.

So with my simple screwdriver,

old rags and q-tips - the job gets done.

Short and Sweet

Short and sweet

So much to eat!!

We laughed a lot

We talked more

Heavy is my head

It’s time for bed!

More than 'Thank You'

So many things

to be grateful for in this life.

the list is long,

  longer than this page,

    longer than any book

with each passing year,

  each day is more precious.

no need to wait til Thanksgiving Day

  to feel them,

    to voice them

to be kind to that youngster

 who didn’t know that gratitude

   was anything more than saying

            ‘thank you’.

“What if, today, we were grateful for everything?”

~ Charlie Brown
