that roots are tucked
in the thinnest crevices
of the rockiest of rock walls.
Intellectually I know
that below concrete sidewalks
a single dandelion
can break through and blossom.
Curiosity builds on intellect
searches for the roots of a problem
looks below the hardest surface
for blossoms despite life’s difficulties.
“Our intelligence cannot wall itself up alive,
like a pupa in a chrysalis. It must at any cost keep
on speaking terms with the universe that engendered it.”
~ William James, A Pluralistic Universe
