Summer Heat

My bare browned toes curled into sunbaked sand, walked themselves into the waters edge
where children splashed and their parents, under the guise of just watching their children,
waded deep and cool,
splashing just enough as if threatening to play
or sat in lawn chairs while salty perspiration dripped into the sweaty theme of a summer read.

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.”
~ Charles Bowden
